ORLANDO, Fla. – Tropical Storm Andrea formed in the middle of the Atlantic, marking the first named storm of the 2025 hurricane season.
As of Tuesday morning, Andrea has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph. It is expected to weaken later Tuesday and dissipate by Wednesday night, thanks to wind shear from up north.
[Is the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season off to a slow start? Here’s what to know]
Andrea is in the central Atlantic, moving toward the east-northeast near 17 mph, and expected to move out further into the northern Atlantic.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the tropical Atlantic typically sees its first named storm by June 20, its first hurricane by Aug. 11 and its first major hurricane by Sept. 1.
Right now, outside of tropical storm Andrea, the National Hurricane Center is not monitoring any other spots in the Atlantic basin. After this system fully dissipates and we receive the final advisory, we will likely be back in a period of quiet.
