Mother, son arrested in stabbing of 15-year-old in Deltona

Kayla Cobb, 33, faces charge of giving false information

DELTONA, Fla. – The Volusia Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 15-year-old and his mother in connection to a stabbing investigation of another 15-year-old in Deltona.

Kayla Cobb, 33, was taken into custody Tuesday on a charge of giving false information to law enforcement.

According to deputies, Cobb provided a false alibi for her son, but detectives used cellphone data and other evidence to tie him to last month’s attack.

The stabbing happened May 14 near the intersection of Courtland Boulevard and Hanford Drive.

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the stabbing was a form of retaliation for a fight that had happened a few days earlier between one of the suspects and the victim.

“The guy who lost the fist-fight rounds up his posse, and they decide to fight this kid after school yesterday, during which he is stabbed multiple times in his thigh and buttocks,” Chitwood explained.

Detectives said they interviewed “parties with knowledge of the incident” to identify the “multiple subjects” who were involved.

A day after the attack, a 13-year-old middle school student was arrested on a charge of principal to aggravated battery.
