SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Two of the men accused in a deadly shooting outside a Sanford Best Buy late last year have made plea deals, while the third suspect will stand trial, court documents show.
Khalil Hunter, 22; James Nelson III, 22; and Shunavious Dorsey, 21, were arrested in connection with the Dec. 17 shooting, which killed 21-year-old Terance Pope Jr.

Pope had arranged to meet up in the store’s parking lot with the expectation that Hunter and Dorsey would buy two iPhones at a nearby Verizon store and sell them to him for cash, the 18th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Hunter allegedly shot Pope during a confrontation, the release states, which added Dorsey then grabbed a gun that Pope had brought before he and Hunter left the scene in a car that Nelson was driving.
It took more than three weeks for all three men to be arrested.

By mid-February, all three suspects had been indicted or charged in the shooting.
Hunter and Nelson were indicted by a Seminole County grand jury on charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm, while Dorsey was charged by the state attorney’s office with accessory after the fact to a capital felony, tampering with evidence, and grand theft of a firearm.
According to new court documents, Dorsey and Nelson have since pleaded no contest to the following charges, and both received sentences of 10 years of probation as a result:
Dorsey
- Count 1: Accessory after the fact (to capital felony)
- Count 2: Tampering with evidence relating to a capital felony
- Count 3: Grand theft (firearm)
Nelson
- Count 1: Accessory after the fact (to capital felony)
- Count 2: Tampering with evidence relating to a capital felony
Hunter has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court June 25 for a pre-trial hearing as he faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm, records show.
