MELBOURNE, Fla. – Brevard County residents searching for a local Trader Joe’s store may finally get their wish, according to county records obtained by News 6.

A building permit submitted this month shows that the grocer is considering building out a location at The Avenue Viera shopping center in Melbourne.

While no information has yet been released about a tentative opening date, records show that the buildout is planned for 2221 Town Center Ave.

Trader Joe’s has been an incredibly popular grocer in recent years, on par with even Florida’s native grocery chain Publix.

However, the closest Trader Joe’s location for many in Brevard County is all the way out in Orlando or Winter Park, making it a hassle to get there for a regular grocery trip.

As a result, this planned site will help locals get their Trader Joe’s fix much closer to home.

Over a dozen new Trader Joe’s locations have been announced nationwide this year, though none in Florida. So far, the Sunshine State holds only 24 stores.
