1 dead, 2 hurt in crash on SR-44 in DeLand

DELAND, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash that caused roadblocks in DeLand.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of State Road 44 (New York Avenue) and Shell Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, preliminary evidence indicates that the crash involved two vehicles: a 2018 Toyota Tacoma and a 2023 Dodge Ram 2500. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, whose identity is pending confirmation, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the pick-up truck were transported to AdventHealth DeLand with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of SR-44 at the intersection of Shell Road are blocked while troopers investigate.

This crash remains under investigation.
