Families face increased expenses this Easter amid rising prices

Easter weekend costs rise for consumers

ORLANDO, Fla. – Easter weekend can be a special time for family and friends, but it was also costlier for many people this year.

From the cost of flights and gas for traveling to the high cost of eggs, your dollar didn’t take you as far this year.

“I came to pick up a few things today, drinks and cat and dog food, and it’s well over $129,” said Wanda Marks, who lives in southwest Orlando.

Fredericka Star was buying a few things after leaving church and told News 6 they had to do more charity work this year.

“This past Saturday, we had a community outreach at a local park where we had food and games,” Star said.

Folks across the country are feeling the pinch this Easter.

This past March, the Consumer Price Index, which measures changes in consumer prices, saw a 3% increase in food over the previous year.

Easter is a popular time for eggs, and data for last month shows the average price of a dozen eggs hit a new record high of $6.23. That’s compared to $5.90 in February 2025 and $2.99 in March 2024.

Marks says she hopes things will be much better before next Easter.

“We definitely need a break in the economy. We need help. The government needs to do more,” Marks said.
